Combe House Hotel

Combe House Hotel at Gittisham is a wonderful Grade 1 Elizabethan country manor house snuggling into the hillside. Partly covered in ivy and snuggled into the trees along the top of the hill it gives you a wonderfully peaceful view of the East Devon countryside.

The driveway winds through a mile of green pasture and magnificent trees. The Combe House estate owns thousands of acres of the woods that surround the hotel making it the perfect retreat. The hotel has been listed in the Good Hotel Guide as “one of the most romantic hotels in Great Britain” and has also received a 'Most Excellent Service' from Conde Nast Johansens.

It has an enviable reputation for fine food. The restaurant recently won a prestigious award presented by the Prince of Wales for the 'South West Restaurant of the Year'. The owners Ken and Ruth Hunt, were naturally delighted and praised the quality of the local produce used by the chef and his staff.

In 2005 Combe House has had a wonderful year of recognition as they have also received the Devon Life magazine Restaurant of the Year and Most Distinctive Local Menu award from the readers.

In 2001 Sally Ann Horman, a well-known Australian interior designer was commissioned to refurbish the hotel rooms at the Combe House Hotel. The results are stunning.

A visit to Combe House is a real pleasure. Surrounded by a landscaped park in unspoilt countryside it’s the perfect base to explore the rest of East Devon.
