A Devon cream tea - a taste of
The best place to eat a Devon cream tea in Ottery St Mary is at Seasons Traditional Tearooms. Martin and Jenny are waiting to welcome you. New for 2005 is the Seasons Tea Garden. Enjoy your tea in the courtyard garden, away from the hustle and bustle of the street.
Thick clotted cream from Devon cows and locally blended tea combine to delight your taste buds. Rightly famous for its cream, Devon offers you the best cream tea in the world.
What is a cream tea?
A Devon cream tea consists of a pot of tea for one, two scones, a pot of strawberry jam and another of thick Devon clotted cream piled high in the dish! Absolutely luscious!
All the tea is served in beautiful white porcelain teapots, complete with a tea strainer - no teabags for Martin and Jenny. As you pour your tea into one of the white porcelain cups it adds to your enjoyment.
Inside, the lace tablecloths and fresh flowers on every table complement the welcoming atmosphere in Seasons.
The tearooms are spotlessly clean; they are cleaned and dusted right through every single day. Martin and Jenny take real pride in keeping everything pristine. This also includes Jenny’s kitchen.
Jenny makes scones fresh every day, adding up to thousands in a year. You can choose either plain or fruit scones to have with your cream tea, both if you like. The fruit scones are packed with fruit and just melt in your mouth. Jenny makes all the cakes too, a mouth-watering selection to choose from. Eat in or take some away for later, the choice is yours.
If you would like to have lunch rather than tea you can enjoy home made soups, local Devon meat, bacon and beautiful farm ham from the butcher in the Square. Finish it off with one of Jenny’s cakes complete with more thick, delicious cream. After your lunch, finish off with a cup of freshly made coffee, proper ground coffee served in a cafétiere. If you prefer a glass of wine there is a licensed bar.
