South West Astronomy Fair
by Iain
(Sidmouth)
The South West's premier astronomy fair is held every August at the Norman Lockyer Observatory in Sidmouth.
It provides an opportunity to visit the famous observatory, attend some excellent lectures by leading astronomers and to view and buy the latest astronomical and related equipment from the various trade stands.
Planetarium presentations and telescope dome tours take place throughout the day. Car parking and refreshments are available.
The fair takes place on Saturday, 7th August 2010, from 9 am to 6 pm.
The event is suitable for all ages, with step-free access for less able visitors. The observatory has also pioneered astronomy for the visually impaired and has special facilities and a stand at the show.
The observatory is a historic working optical observatory which promotes public awareness of, and interest in, science, astronomy, radio astronomy, meteorology, and geology and supports science education in schools, colleges and universities. It is operated by the Norman Lockyer Observatory Society as a registered charity.
The Observatory is located on Salcombe Hill, Sidmouth, with the GPS location EX10 0NY.
